Titanium PowerBook G4 Introduced; Thin, Fast, and Amazing

In the video Steve Jobs showed to feature the new PowerBook G4 Titanium introduced today, Jonathan Ive called it "unreasonably thin." It's 1 inch thick, packing a 15.2" screen, up to a 500 MHz G4 processor, slot load DVD, five hour battery, and all the details.

But perhaps the most amazingly feature the new G4 has is the titanium skin it uses. It's commercial grade titanium alloy that allows the machine to be so light and so thin.

Here are the specs:

PowerBook G4 400 MHz G4 processor, 128 MB RAM, 20 GB disk, Rage 128 mobility graphics, one FireWire port, two USB ports, VGA out, dual AirPort antennae, and a five hour battery built into the bottom of the unit. All for $2599.

PowerBook G4 500 MHz G4 processor, 256 MB RAM, 30 GB disk, Rage 128 mobility graphics, one FireWire port, two USB ports, VGA out, dual AirPort antennae, and a five hour battery built into the bottom of the unit. All for $3499.

People are going to say the unit has capacity for one battery, or they're going to say one FireWire port isn't enough. The unit doesn't have an expansion bay and perhaps there isn't the usual microphone built in.

However, the newest PowerBook G4 is the fastest portable on the planet. At 1" and 5.3 pounds, it'll be the fastest selling PowerBook in history.

It will be available at the end of January, as it is just now ramping production.

Steve calls it the "most beautiful, sexy portable on the planet."
