Lombard Shipping Reader Reports

The following is a compilation of all emails received thus far on Lombard shipping. The oldest emails are at the bottom, the newest towards the top. There were many before 5/26/99 but we deem them inaccurate since Apple has begun to ship. Again, the two dates for shipment look around the 1st/2nd/3rd of June then the 8th/9th of June. All backorders should be filled in one of these two periods.

I thought I'd let you know that my 400MHz G3 Powerbook Arrived this morning at 9:45 central time via Federal Express here in Fort Worth, Texas. I ordered the machine from the Apple Store just after the WWDC Keynote.

Actual phone conversation with Outpost.com rep, this morning:

"Yours hasn't shipped."
"I know that. What's the new scheduled date of shipment?"
"June 1st."
"That's today. They're shipping today?"
"First week of June."
"So they're not shipping June 1st?"
"First part of June."
Received my book today! With both extra batteries, almost a week and a half before estimated date!

With all of the "Lombard shipping" bits of news swirling about, I called my Outpost sales rep to see what was going on. He could be clueless (I wonder how many different stories come out from resellers sales reps?), but he mentioned that Apple is having manufacturing problems and thus has not given a ship date. Besides the wait (ordered on May 13th), I'm more than a little worried about the quality of the Lombards produced. :P
I ordered a PowerBook G3 400MHz from MacConnection on May 20th. They initially told me that they were expecting from Apple the PowerBooks on June 1, 1999 and should be shipping. I then read your articles stating the probable changes in delivery dates, so I again called to verify the delivery date, they again re-stated it to be on 6/1/99. Today I call for my Tracking Number, and I am told that the delivery date has been pushed back, not to June 8-9 as expected, but June 15th, 1999. Could you please corroborate this new info. Thanks! 700 powerbooks come in on june 14th to macmall. that's what they told me about my order that i placed two weeks ago.
Hey Doug. I just called up the AppleStore. They said my order wouldn't go through the normal channels so they didn't have a record of me, but I am not complaining :) . I chatted a little with the guy. From our page, I am sure you know they definitely started shipping (not super big) 2 days ago, thats what the guy said. He also mentioned they are targeting for all back orders currently placed to be filled before the middle of June. So it is looking like that June 7th week is when the motherload arrives. The guy seemed pretty cheerful and I got the definite impression he has been dealing with a lot of unhappy customers lately. But they are coming, thats what matters. have a nice Memorial Day sorting it all out and making all those back ordered customers happy :)

our order we placed with our dealer SD-Computer GmbH in Hamburg, Germany has been shipped out of Cork already and should arrive on Wednesday, the 2nd of June here in Hamburg. 3x 333Mhz and 1x 400Mhz Lombard, that is. ;-)
I just received an e-mail from Apple right now to notify me that my PowerBook has been shipped! The e-mail told that it's expected to be delivered on June 3rd. I have orderd this PowerBook G3/400 on May 12th.

I placed an order with the Apple Store on May 15th for my Lombard Powerbook. I called today to inquire about the anticipated ship date. I was told that because I'd ordered before May 20th I could expect delivery on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
I just wrote you about being quoted the most recent ship date of June 7 on a PB I ordered 5/12 through the Apple Ed. Store. Now I just went to the "order status" page, and much to my surprise, saw that it was shipped 5/28 minus the VST superdisk! Think I can wait on that!!! Goody! Goody! I live in FL and hope to have it this week!
Just letting you know that I had placed my order 5/10/99 (after work) - I have since received an email (actually two) apologizing for delay and telling me that my computer would be shipped at the "end of May" and that ALL shipping charges were waived. Today when I called Apple and spoke to a rep (giving him my order no) - I was told that they were shipping ALL Powerbook orders in the coming week. More specifically he told me that I would definitely be receiving shipping info sometime around mid to end of next week.

I just ordered my PB 400 MHz tonight! Aside from that, the sales person told me that the first few units were shipped today, and that units would be continuing to ship. I ordered directly from Apple (to take advantage of educational pricing), which may or may not mean different shipping dates than shipments going to authorized dealers. Anyway, that's what I heard.

It looks like it's similar problems with delays in the UK as well. One store was expecting their shipment yesterday, and were told that it would be another two weeks. The Apple Store UK also told me that they expect to be able to ship for the second week of June, although they wouldn't commit to any specific date.
Here would be another Apple product shipment notification just as above. It is similar in every way to the above one.
So I ordered my Lombard (400MHz) on May 21, from Outpost.com, and they've told me twice now that I should expect to receive it on either June 1, 2 or 3. My most recent call to Outpost was May 27.
I ordered my Lombard 400 through the NECX Educational system (representing MIT). I placed the order on May 18, and I've been told that I should expect shipment "early to mid june" after my account person called Apple to see when the product would ship from Apple. They don't get their machines through Ingram Micro, Pinacor, or any of the normal suppliers--they seem to come directly from Apple. Their product information systems always say (and always have said) "Allow 10 days to ship"
5/28/99
Today, I called Outpost.com and inquired "Where the hell is my friggin powerbook?" They said that although two seperate Lombard units have straggled in and been shipped, they are not optimistic that the June 1 date will happen at all. Apparently, they are talking more about June 9th now. It'd be nice if Apple were to make a statement on what's going on... But then again, that is not Apple's style.....They know people will wait obediently for their computers, and then say "thank-you" after getting them a month late. And we somehow wonder why Apple has had market share problems in the past? It's because of their absolute arrogance.
i thought i'd let you guys know that as of this morning, ingram micro shows a new eta of 06/08/1999 on 333 and 400 mhz powerbooks (lombards).
An Apple Ed. Store sales rep said mine would be shipped on June 7, and she would let me know if there would be any further delays.
I emailed you the other day with info regarding the 9th as a ship day - well - I'm a little confused now. According to the website and apple, my book has been shipped as of today on FedEx. It was shipped on the 28th for delivery on the 9th?! that's what it says, and I spoke with a somewhat disgruntled Apple Rep who said I should expect it on Tuesday! I have no idea what will happen now.... Has anyone else gotten this?
I'd written in once before about lombard shipping via apple store education. well, I got an email yesterday, seems that they've shipped my extra battery, but no powerbook yet. I called up the apple store today after seeing the note on your web site and was told that my 'book should be shipping out early next week. I only ordered last Sunday, so it doesn't sound that bad to me. I ordered the 400MHz version.
I ordered a new G3 Powerbook 400 on May 13th from the Apple Store. I called yesterday to check the status and was told by Apple that it would ship on June 10th via FedEx (not UPS Ground as originally told) and I would receive it on June 12th. I believe they upgraded the shipping and eliminated the shipping costs because of the late release date. Hope this helps.

Latest word is that they will not be shipping until sometime between June 8th and June
14th. I think Apple owes us all an explanation.

Apple Reply:

They started shipping this week, so you should all be seeing them soon.

I asked the campus computer store when they expected the new PowerBooks to arrive and the best they could say was "Early June." Actually, it was "Early June, we hope." I also asked in the computer store a couple of towns over about June 8th and they said that "Sounds about right." Why does Apple always do this??
Hi I just checked with Apple when my PowerBook New G3 333 is going to ship. They told me Tuesday morning. Orders placed now will ship not until the 8th. The guy on the phone seemed quite confident that my PB is going to ship Tuesday morning.
According to Apple store, the shipping date for my Lombard 400MHz (placed May 14th) is June 9th. The support person remarked that that's the earliest shipping date she's seen so far.
I have called Outpost.com every day since I ordered my 400/DVD. Every day I have gotten the same answer: next week (6/1-6/4). I certainly hope that they are right this time, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. I suppose it wouldn't kill me if it didn't show up before 6/5; I have the SATs then and the new PB would keep me from preparing :)
Yesterday, my Apple rep quoted "the first half of June" for my soon-to-be-beloved 400MHz Lombard. This may be affected by my "new" order date of 5/27... Tip: The Apple Loan folks aren't exactly proactive about mythical problems with your paperwork. Thanks for your work on your great site!

I, having no life, check on the order status of my powerbook everyday. for the last week and a half, its been at the "being assembled" stage (2 of 4). when i checked it today, it was back at the "being reviewed" stage (1 of 4) which probably means apple is finally getting around to shipping. just more proof of the june 1st date, or has my creditcard gone bad ;)
5/26/99
I was the *1st* person to buy a new Lombard through the Apple Store, a I was on the phone with an apple rep while the pbs became available. I bought my 400mhz model through the education store and was guaranteed it on the 21st. Contrary to your publiched reports today, the store is now verifying a date of June 9th as the EARLIEST any books will ship. They will be sent directly from Taiwan and anyone who is hearing they are coming from Sacramento is being lied to. All this was told to me this afternoon. I'm pissed as hell because I'm leaving for oversees on the eleventh and I'm not coming back until January.
Hi The AppleStore told me today that they will ship my new PB G3 333 on May 30. I ordered it on May 22. Best regards, Chris
AppleStore UK today tells me they expect to ship the 2nd week of June, due to "manufacturing delays." I'll keep checking with the local stores next week, as they still say "end of next week," but the Apple Store said they get priority, and will receive machines before the rest of the channel. BTW, the international Apple Stores have now all been updated to reflect an early June availability.
