FireWire Competition Heats Up With RATOC PC Card
Entering the arena already occupied by Newer Technology's FireWire 2 Go offering, RATOC Systems has introduced its CBFW2, presumably named since it is a CardBus FireWire product. The card includes a 4 and 6 pin FireWire connector, rather than the 6 pin connector alone that Newer provides. However, 4 to 6 pin adapter cables are readily available.
Newer's card should be available soon this month, and RATOC's offering is no different, they estimate availability in the U.S. at June 12th. They've also creatively priced the card at 1 dollar cheaper than Newer's card, at 248 dollars to Newer's 249 dollars. RATOC is a Japanese firm, so where to buy in the U.S. is yet to be established, according to RATOC's sales pages. For more information and more technical specs, visit RATOC's page or send an email to their international office in California.
