Newer Announces G4 Upgrades

Newer Technology has beat Apple to the punch by minutes, releasing a line of G4 upgrades before Apple releases its G4 machines today at Seybold San Francisco. The press release is here, but the server is down at this time. We got a copy of it before it went down, and it mentions that the upgrades work in all the currently upgradable machines, but it does NOT work in the Blue and White G3 machines with the ROM update that Apple released, as was rumored.

The following machines are supported:

7300, 7500, 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500 and 9600; Power Computing PowerTower Pro and PowerWave; UMAX S900 and J700 series; as well as the beige Power Mac G3s.MAXpowr G4 upgrades are very similar in appearance to their MAXpowr G3 counterparts. Currently, the most recent Apple ROM update issued for blue & white Power Mac G3s has rendered them incapable of using G4 upgrades.
Hopefully the press release will be up soon. Pricing and availability has not been released yet.
