Price War Yields Great DVD Kit Prices
By now you've probably heard that MacMall offered Wallstreet DVD Kits (PC card decoder and expanion bay module) for $199, but simply didn't have enough stock, and cancelled the orders of those that jumped on this deal. However, they reposted a price of $269 on the web (10% off deal) and $299 by phone with a new part number, as they expected to get more units.
Many people who ordered at $199 were dismayed that the price had jumped 70 dollars, though they had an order for the same unit days earlier at the lower price. MacMall did the right thing though, and a list was given to the account reps. They began calling those who ordered at $199 to offer them the kit at this price. However, for new orders, the price from MacMall is still $269 on the web, $299 by phone.
Late Tuesday night, Outpost.com lowered their DVD Kit's price from $499 to $299 to compete with MacMall. Remember, Outpost.com has free overnight shipping now, so the prices are somewhat competitive. It really is a matter of which outlet you prefer more, as they both have stock of the unit as of this writing.
The DVD Kit is a great accessory for your Wallstreet (not compatible with the 'bronze' PowerBooks) PowerBook at this price. Whereas before, the near $500 dollar price put many people off from the opportunity, these cuts bring the kit within range of casual purchases.
