The "Bronze" PB's Many Codenames Explained

Many people recently have asked us why we refer to the new "bronze" PowerBook G3 Series as "lombard," when they think the real codename is "101." That all depends on how you look at it. Below are all of the new PowerBook's codenames explained:

101-This is the overall project codename. We would use it to refer to the new PowerBooks, but for the sake of continuity, we've just stuck with Lombard. 101 refers to a state highway in California in the Silicon Valley area.

Lombard-This is the codename for the casing of the PowerBook. It was called Lombard because the downtown portion of highway 101 in San Francisco is called the "curviest road in the world" by some. Interestingly enough, Lombard is also a insulting acronym in England for rich people.

Skateboard-This is one that has not been picked up by other news sites. This is the codename for the motherboard. Like "yosemite" is the motherboard for the "blue and white" PowerMacs, this is the MB codename for 101. It got its codename because you wouldn't want to be on a skateboard on Lombard Street.

MatchBox-This is another that we reported way ahead of the pack. MatchBox is the codename for the FireWire PC Card that Apple is reportedly working on for a release early in June. We think you can easily determine how it got its name.
