Ariston Adds FireWire Card to Current Group
Ariston Technologies introduced its line of FireWire (IEEE 1394) products yesterday, among them a CardBus to FireWire adapter PC Card.
Dubbed the FireCard, it's compatible with Windows 98 and the Mac OS when drivers ship on their anticipated date of August 1st, 1999. The card provides compliance with all the latest FireWire standards. It includes both a six pin and four pin FireWire connector. The card requires a Wallstreet class or better PowerBook, along with Mac OS 8.6. Ariston's question and answer page provides interesting details about what direction the FireWire protocol is heading. Ariston claims to be the most up-to-date card of those that are available. At press time, no price was listed on the Ariston page, though they do provide a list of U.S. retailers.
Ariston is entering a market already occupied by two well-publicized cards, the RATOC CBFW2, and the NewerTech FireWire2Go card. All of these cards allow speeds up to 400 Mbps at their highest capacity.
