Reader James sends this sighting: the apple powerbook and ibook are sighted quite often on TLC's "While you were out" and "Trading Spaces" Of course with the apple taped over.Anyone else seen PBs in public? Send them to info@pbzone.com. Jaguar Mousepads == Jumpy Optical Mice According to an email at Accelerate Your Mac!, the mousepads Apple gave away at Jaguar launch parties make optical mice perform poorly because the black incorporated in the Jaguar design doesn't reflect light properly. So if your mouse is jumpmy, it's not a Jaguar bug, it's a mousepad bug. There's a discussion at Apple's support board regarding the issue. Reader Zanko asks: I was wondering if you had any info on what is going on with Adaptec's development of OS X driver for their PowerDomain SlimSCSI 1480 card. It went into beta for 10.1.3 only back in May. Since then there has been nothing on the news front about it. I was wondering if you had any additional info on this. Thanks for your help! Apparently there's not much public information. Anyone out there with the inside scoop on the driver's progress, please email info@pbzone.com. Purchases are limited to the Apple Store and Apple Store for Education and the savings are instant, not a mail-in rebate of any kind. Apple also is offering up to $3,000 off its Shake products with qualifying purchases of Maya. Since it's a high-end deal, we'll let you get the details here. Lastly, Apple's chopping up to $500 off the price of the DV camcorders it has for sale at the Apple Store. Obviously, the cheaper cams are going to have less off and the reduction depends on the model and manufacturer. If you are in the market for a DV cam, check it out here. Microsoft to Run Pro-Mac Ads? Though there was significant, obvious cooling of the relationship between Apple and Microsoft right around the Macworld New York timeframe, it seems Microsoft is turning the other cheek in regards to the "Switch" ads; it plans to run a series of ads touting Microsoft Office for Mac. The print ads, which should begin appearing Sunday, show Macs and PCs getting along together. The irony is overwhelming.
