Considering a New PowerBook Purchase?

BareFeats has a great article that looks at the performance of the new PowerBook G4 800, and compares it to the earlier PowerBook G4 models, the current 667 model, and the new iBooks. It's a good run down that should assist people wondering what Apple portable best fits their needs, and budget. You can check that out here.

Once you've decided which PowerBook to buy, check out PowerBook Central's Price Tracker to find out where to buy from.

New 700 MHz iBooks Have Hidden Power

This news isn't fresh off the wire, but it is very interesting and hasn't been widely reported. According to a reader who wrote into Accelerate Your Mac, the new iBooks that come with 700 MHz Sahara G3 processors can actually be bumped to a whopping 800 MHz via software, no soldering needed! While the long term effects are unknown, it appears that the immediate side effects are mutual. For full instructions and more information on this clever hack, check out this page at Accelerate Your Macintosh.

PBZ Spring Cleaning

Yes, we know it's not exactly "summer," but it's never a bad time to clean house. Our closets at PBZ headquarters are getting crowded and we have some fresh gear that we need to get rid of. These items are brand new, never opened, and nicely discounted for your purchasing pleasure.

iPod: 10 GB capacity, which translates into over 2000 songs, works great as a portable hard drive, and it plays Breakout. You can pick it up for only $450.

AirPort Base Station: Again, brand new unit, 128-bit encryption, built-in firewall, supports up to 50 users, support for America Online, 150 foot range. We're letting her go for the super sweet price of $250.

If you are interested in either of these items, email info@pbzone.com. We'll ship via FedEx, and accept PayPal, money orders, and will accept personal checks, but we'll hold onto the gear until the check clears.

G4/500 Pismo Upgrades on the Horizon?

A mailing from Other World Computing has information on the plans of Newer Technology, the upgrade company many thought to be deceased. It seems that Newer is now going to be producing, in addition to their existing products, a G4/500 processor upgrade for Pismo PowerBooks. This is great news for those of you not quite ready to abandon their black beauties.
