Apple and 1394 Trade Association Reach FireWire Licensing Agreement Apple previously charged for the right to use the FireWire name and logo with the use of the technology that's also known as IEEE1394, but after an agreement announced today, Apple has given the Trade Association the right to sub-license the name and logo for free. Full details are here. Small Dog Garage Sale A reader pointed out Small Dog's garage sale with mostly extremely cheap discontinued hardware and software. There are a few good buys and a few PowerBook-specific items, so you might want to check it out . Cheap 800 MHz PowerBooks MacConnection has refurbished G4/800s for $2799 in their 'clearance' area. They're item number 352906. That's a $400 savings and remember that Apple has a full one year warranty on refurbished items. Thanks to PowerBook Central for first noticing this deal . PBG4 800 Benchmarks Bare Feats has posted benchmarks produced by the PowerBook G4 DVI 800 MHz. Friday, May 24th 2002 11:16 PDT Griffin Updates iMate Driver for OS X Griffin has posted the iMate 1.5 driver for OS X and the iMate 2.7 adapter for Mac OS 9. Site Offers Help with Using PowerBook in Hotel Apple STSN Support is "for travelers who would like to connect their Apple PowerBooks up to the STSN systems installed in such hotels as Marriott and Ritz Carlton." If this applies to your travels, you might want to check it out. FireFly for $99 The Apple Store Online offers the VST FireFly 5 GB portable FireWire hard disk that uses the same hard drive type as the iPod for $99. Click on "storage" to find it. PowerBookResQ Same Day Service Debuts As we first reported awhile ago, PowerBook ResQ has planned to offer same-day pickup service for PowerBook or iBook repairs. That service is now available: Concord, CA -- May 24, 2002 -- MacResQ announced today a new nationwide same-day pickup service as part of their PowerBookResQ repair program.
