Latest Apple Hardware Up For Auction: An Apple I
A month or so ago, we reported on the "Mac Thing" set-top box. That was just a prototype that was tested for use in Britain for on-demand interactive television services. Now the latest rare Apple hardware has come up for auction. It's an original Apple I, of which only 200 were made. The auction, being held at La Salle Auctions, can be viewed here.
They note that the Apple I was introduced in 1976 and is now valued at over 40,000 dollars because of its rarity. The page is somewhat confusing, appearing to offer an Apple I prototype, but it seems that not a prototype, but a finished Apple I is what is for sale. Additionally, there is a MITS Altair for auction on the page, and they seem to infer that the MITS was an "Apple prototype."
If you're interested in buying either the MITS Altair or the Apple I board, you should definately contact the auction house at info@lasallegallery.com, since the details are so murky.
