PBZone Bag Week Review:
Acme Made's Slim 15"--Your PowerBook's Most Stylish Outfit

by Doug Landry

Acme Made

Price: $89.99
Requirements: Shoulders and a laptop.
What's Hot: Minimalist chic; brilliant saturated color; non-scratch quilted soft interior fabric
What's Not: Not for carrying anything but your machine

Each bag we've reviewed here has a certain character. Some are mountaineering packs adapted to carry a PowerBook, some are large messenger style shoulder bags, and some are aluminum attache cases fit for James Bond.

The Acme Made 15" Slim doesn't fit into any of these categories. It's like a little red dress for your PowerBook. The case is square with the most striking vibrant red fabric you can imagine. The picture below doesn't begin to do the color justice. It's uncluttered and simple with two black loop handles, a small ACME logo on one side, and a zippered pocket on the reverse that you could fit a single file or a few cables into--it's a tight squeeze.

The inside of the bag is a remarkably soft quilted material. The zippers are covered with a strip of rubber which provides an even cleaner appearance while practically keeping water out. The fabric of the case itself is waterproof. It comes with a detachable shoulder strap.

We're beginning to sound like a broken record in this section of the reviews this past week, but again the quality of the workmanship on the bag is flawless. While this bag certainly isn't suited for a backpacking trip or the like, it seems of the quality to hold up for several years of daily use.

There's not much else to say about this bag--it aims for a certain market and knocks the ball right out of the park. If you carry a lot of gear with your PowerBook, this is not the case for you. If you love the smallest size bag possible with clean lines and eyecatching style, this is indeed the case for you. At $85 it's not the cheapest bag for your PowerBook, but it's like going to get a fashion designer to make an original creation for your PowerBook--it's the only bag out there like it.

Acme makes a 12" version for $80 and a 17" version for $95. Their site is here.
